Bouncin' out at MTV Music Evolution 2015

Christian Melanie Lee
Last Sunday, I had a great opportunity to watch MTV Music Evolution which they gathered the best of talented rappers in the world of hip-hop scene.

In case you didn't know, MTV Music Evolution is a live music event that brings to life the evolution of a music genre and enables young people to experience and discover how music styles and sounds have evolved over the years. MTV Music Evolution marks its inauguration 2015 edition with a feature on hip hop, showcasing iconic and contemporary hip hop acts from both international and local music scenes on a single stage, while featuring the best of Philippine music and culture to international youth audiences.
Abra performed some of his songs at MTV Music Evolution

The said music event was held at the historic Quirino Grandstand, Rizal Park. It was hosted by MTV Asia VJs Alan Wong and Hanli Hoefer as well as MTV Pinoy VJs Yassi Pressman and Chris Schneider. With a stellar line-up of homegrown local and international acts took the stage in celebration of iconic, and contemporary hip-hop music.

Though I'm not into the said genre, I enjoyed the night seeing Gloc-9, and Abra performed their hits. It makes me proud that these guys did their fair share to the local music scene. I was amused when he sang Sirena. He kicked the show off with his hits Upuan and Sumayaw Ka. I wept when he did an inspiring tribute to the late Francis M through the song Stars and Sun, and Kaleidescope World.

The Philippines’ hottest hip hop act, Abra, who took the stage with Loonie, Ron Henley and his crew, Lyrically Deranged Poers brought down the house with a medley of 6 songs such as Poor Country, AP3 and Cerberus, among others.

Pinoy pride Apl.de.Ap fired up the stage and performed some of Black Eyed Peas' popular songs.

One of the reason why I watched the said concert: I want to see Apl.de.ap performed in front of his Pinoy fans. The country's pride proved that he was truly home, as he did his set such as crowds' favorite, Bebot, The Apl Song, Be (performed along with Jessica Reynoso) and I Gotta Feeling. He ended his set with the Black Eyed Peas' hit Where is the Love?

With the fusion of old school and new school flava, DJ Cash Money got the crowd in unison while played his turntable with a spectacular array of lasers around the venue. I witnessed a group of teenagers circled and did some cripwalk.

Then, YG opened his set along with DJ Goofy 500 and Slim 400, who performed BPT along with him. They did an energetic 15-song medley that included YG’s popular hits My Hitta, Don’t Tell Em, Who Do U Love, and I Just Wanna Party.

One of the highlights that night when Grammy-award winning act Naughty by Nature entered the stage wearing custom-made shirts bearing the words ‘Filipino by Nature’. It's their first time to perform in the country. When they performed their famous and timeless songs like O.P.P., Hip Hop Hooray, Uptown, Craziest, and Feel Me Flow. Old school never dies! They wrapped up the night by giving the crowd a snippet of their rendition of Francis M.’s Kaleidescope World.
