We Owned The Night #OwnIt

Gelo de Vera
With hopes of celebrating passions, talents and individuality, Smart and Ovation Productions introduced Own It, a night with YouTube favorites that happened last night, July 9th at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The line-up included musicians who used YouTube as the platform for their music.
The Australian band of brothers LYNK (formerly At Sunset) took the stage and opened the show with their songs “Every Little Thing”, “Kiss Me”, “21 Reasons”, their own renditions of “Hold On We’re Going Home”, “Diamonds”, “Stitches “ and their original “Forever”.

After LYNK’s set the hosts Riza Diaz & Bogart The Explorer introduced the meaning behind “Own It”- celebrating passions, talents and individuality. They interviewed some members of the audience and encouraged them to own every moment.

Former Nickelodeon star Max Schneider with 122M combined YouTube views took the house down with his powerhouse vocals and dance moves. He performed songs off his album Hell’s Kitchen like “Gibberish”, “Wrong”, “Basement Party”, “Mug Shot”, “Streets of Gold” with his ukulele, song covers “No Diggity”, “Apologize/Sorry”. It was MAX’s first time in the Philippines.

As a last minute addition to the #OwnIt line-up, Gab Valenciano performed a song and dance number followed by a game joined by Alodia Gosiengfiao, Vern & Verniece Enciso with a few fans.

The sweet girl-next-door Tiffany Alvord with 500M combined YouTube videos and 2 albums out took the stage with Kurt Hugo Schneider. The singer performed original songs like “My Heart Is” and “After Effect” to name a few. Tiffany told a story while performing a mash up of songs including Paramore’s “Still Into You”, Adele’s “Hello”, Taylor Swift’s “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”, “Bad Blood”, Justin Bieber’s “Love Youself” & “Sorry”.  Tiffany Alvord also got emotional with “Pour Little Heaven On Me”, a song she wrote about having a little hope during ups & downs of life.

The night got so intense with Sam Tsui and Kurt Hugo Schneider because they teamed up for their set. Sam performed with his killer falsetto and sultry dance moves. The singer performed a few original songs “Perfect Storm”, “Next Best Thing”, “Wherever You Are”, “Secret” and “Clumsy” to name a few. Sam Tsui dedicated “Just a Dream” to the late YouTube sensation Christina Grimmie. Kurt Schneider performed “Where You Are” – a song he produced with other musicians but the singer performed his own version. The highlight of their set was when the two brought out a table and two cups leading to a performance of the cup song “When I'm Gone”.

The night ended perfectly with Leroy Sanchez’s dreamy voice performing covers “Uptown Funk”, “Hello”, “The Feeling” cover with Jessica Sanchez whom he FaceTimed earlier the day during the sound check, “Cake By The Ocean”, “Sorry”, “When We Were Young” and more. He also performed songs like “Faith” a song he wrote about how hard it is to be away from home, “Halfway” a song about how one person can’t be the only one person in love one must meet him halfway. The singer also performed the song that got him attention, Beyonce’s “Love on Top”.

We definitely owned the night as we danced and sang our hearts out to our YouTube favorites. Thank you Ovation Productions and Smart for #OwnIt!
