OPM hits rules YouTube's hottest list

Recently, YouTube released the top trending videos among Filipinos for 2015 with OPM hits dominating the music video category. Though seven slots were taken by Pinoys, the top spot went to Silento’s Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae) which went viral globally and inspired thousands of dance covers.

  1. Silentó - Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae) (Official) - Treating viewers to yet another dance craze, the music video show a variety of hip hop dances that made netizens all over the world “whipping”, “nae nae-ing”, and doing the “stanky leg”. Famous celebrities such as Matt Damon, Ciara, and Russell Wilson joined in on the fun too.
  2. KIM CHIU - Mr. Right (Official Music Video) - Set in a cupcake shop, the music video features Kim as a waitress looking for her Mr. Right who turned out to be her onscreen partner Xian Lim. The song is part of her album Chinita Princess which received gold and platinum record awards and a Song of the Year nomination at the 7th PMPC Star Awards for Music.
  3. Vice Ganda - Wag Kang Pabebe (Official Music Video) - Vice’s star-studded music video went viral as it featured celebrities like Toni and Alex Gonzaga, Anne Curtis, Sarah Geronimo, and Maja Salvador and the viral sensation Pabebe Girls.
  4. Feeling Carefree featuring Liza Soberano - Intended to be an advertising jingle, Liza, with her charming good looks, is shown in the music video singing while feeling carefree and fresh.
  5. Darren Espanto - In Love Ako Sa 'Yo - The Voice Kids runner-up recently released his album entitled Darren with his carrier single “In Love Ako Sa’Yo”. The video shows the young singer’s admiration toward a girl while belting lyrics written by Vehnee Saturno.
  6. HAPPY BREAK UP: Donnalyn Bartolome (Official Music Video) - While many dread the idea of a broken heart, Donnalyn’s music video adds a twist by giving the song a gleeful melody.
  7. Nakakamiss OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO - Smugglaz, Curse One, Dello, Flict-G - A song for the barkada, this music video brings viewers to a trip down memory lane as Smugglaz, Curse, Dello, and Flict-G fondly recall memories with their friends.
  8. EXO_CALL ME BABY_Music Video - As the only K-pop song that made it to this year’s local list, Exo’s music video placed third on YouTube’s official 2015 K-pop rankings.
  9. [Official Video] Cheerleader – Pentatonix (OMI Cover) - Acapella group Pentatonix’s cover of the OMI’s summertime hit song gained the attention of millions as they gave the song a refreshing a cappella twist.
  10. Alden Richards - Wish I May - Lyric Video - The lyric video features a slideshow of Alden’s photos. Alden is the other half of the Internet-breaking loveteam AlDub opposite Maine Mendoza a.k.a  Yaya Dub.

Filipinos’ love for reality TV shows stands out in this year’s most watched non-music video list with reality talent competitions taking four out of ten spots. Filipino pride El Gamma Penumbra, an all-male shadow play group, takes the fifth spot. The video features their winning piece at the Asia’s Got Talent Grand Finals.

Yaya Dub takes the eighth and ninth spots after she made millions of Filipinos swoon over her team-up with Alden Richards. The two became famous after overwhelming support from fans in the noontime show Eat Bulaga’s Kalyeserye segment.

The global top trending music video is Furious 7’s soundtrack See You Again by Wiz Khalifa and featuring Charlie Puth. Hitting more than one billion views on YouTube globally, the song is dedicated to late movie actor Paul Walker.

Uptown Funk, See You Again, and Thinking Out Loud were the top three trending songs for 2015 based on views of official and fan-uploaded videos. Super Bowl’s “Clash of Clans: Revenge”, Hyundai’s “A Message to Space”, and Ad Council’s “Love Has No Labels” are the top three most viewed ads.
