Everyone in the crowd was lucky enough to be
in the presence of greatness, the night when the international music legend
Engelbert Humperdinck once again performed his timeless hits. It reminded me
about the welfares of being in his presence at the press con the day before his
concert. It was fun! More about Engelbert Humperdinck’s press con at Novotel
HERE.
The Engelbert Humperdinck Magic Onstage
Engelbert Humperdinck's one and a half hour show
at the Big Dome has given us all a lifetime of memories and we are thankful for
the chance to watch such a wonderful talent live. The icon delivers classic hits, old favorites and
romantic ballads with his fabulous vocals.
"Good evening everybody, welcome to the show. Hello! Mabuhay! It's
been a while since I'm here and I'm happy to be back and I just been
celebrating a big birthday. But I'm happy to be here, I'm going to celebrate by
going back in time and bringing back some songs, the nostalgia, the songs of
the past is what I'm talking about," opens
Engelbert Humperdinck’s one-night-only
concert at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. "Every time I come over here is a pleasure because
there's a lot of lovely talented people here in the Philippines who love
singing my songs and I do appreciate that."
Engelbert’s hit songs we heard live include
"Am I That Easy To Forget," "The Last Waltz," "A Man Without Love," "After The
Lovin,’ ‘Quando," "The Way It Used to Be," "Les Bicyclettes,"
"I Can’t Stop Loving You," "There Goes My Everything" and "Spanish Eyes."
Filipino fans were
singing and thrumming through all the songs. We found genuine timeless feels in
every stunning performance.
He is like a time portal which allowed
someone like me or an adoring fan to travel from one point in time during his
popularity to another by passing through with his music.
Collaboration with other legendary artists
“I have recorded 81 albums in my life. This is the first time I ever
recorded a duet album and I recorded it with some very famous people,” as he introduced a song that he collaborated with Elton John entitled
"Something about the Way You Look Tonight."
During the press con, he introduced this
collaboration in the album “Calling.” It is Engelbert Humperdinck’s 80th album
that comes 45 years after his number one single and signature tune, ‘Release
Me.’ It features brand new recordings of classic tracks, all handpicked by the
legendary singer himself. Artist collaborations are with Sir Elton John, Smokey
Robinson, Dionne Warwick, Willie Nelson, Il Divo, Kenny Rogers, Neil Sedaka,

His Music Legacy
Engelbert Humperdinck has generated sales in
excess of 140 million records, including 64 gold albums and 35 platinum, four
Grammy nominations, a Golden Globe, and stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame,
Las Vegas Walk of Fame, and Leicester Walk of Fame.
Engelbert Humperdinck made a look back upon Dean
Martin at the start of his career, as a video was being played at the concert,
as he narrated stories about his beginnings and success.
It’s been great to hear him sing Celine
Dion’s ‘Power of Love’ in his own unique
romantic style. I love his wit and good humor in telling us his stories and how
he has donned himself with the cowboy hat, graceful to line-dance in his
interpretations of Boz Scaggs’ "Look What You’ve Done to Me" and Bruce
Springsteen’s "I’m On Fire."
“How I Love You’ was
memorable because of his charming gestures, sincere lyrics and moving music, it
is what the ladies love but ‘Release Me’ is exceptional. This song will
celebrate 50 years next year, so is Engelbert Humperdinck’s notable career in
music. And his legacy is an incomparable heritage, his accomplishments are his
evidences.
For the record,
Engelbert Humperdinck's 'Release Me' kept The Beatles’ 'Penny Lane' off the top
of the charts. The success of this song was meant to change our lives.
"Release Me" spent 56 weeks in the top 50 in a single chart run and
has believed to have sold 85,000 copies a day at the height of its popularity.
“I say a big thank you to all of you; you've been such a beautiful
audience this evening. Applause is the food of an artist and thank you for not
starving me,” tells Engelbert Humperdinck before he ends. The
songs ‘For The Good Times’
made our Engelbert Humperdinck experience complete, a fitting goodbye to yet
another stellar concert. Two thumbs up to his undeniable connection to people
as he bids farewell, “Salamat po. For the
good times!”
