5 things you should know about Astrid S

Award-winning singer and pop star Astrid S has unveiled her brand new single “Breathe”. The track is her first of new music for 2017, and follows a breakthrough year for Astrid, in which the hit single - ‘Hurts So Good - topped 120 million streams on Spotify alone.



There are five things you should know about Astrid S:

1. At age 16, she joined the Norwegian version of Pop Idol in 2013, and at that time released a single, "Shattered", under the name Astrid Smeplass. She placed fifth from the said competition.


2. In 2015, Astrid won the MTV EMA for Best Norwegian Act in 2015 and has had multiple Norwegian Grammy nominations including Track of the Year for “Hurts So Good.” She has also awarded ‘Best Norwegian Act’ at the MTV European Music Awards.

3. Did you know that she provided backing vocals for Katy Perry's "Hey Hey Hey" from her album, Witness?

4. Her official music video, "Hurts So Good” reached 7 million views as a part of Astrid’s self-titled debut EP.

5. In 2016, she was hailed as ‘Breakthrough Artist Of The Year’ for her self-titled EP. She supported Troye Sivan on his European tour.

In case you didn't know, “Breathe” was produced by Oscar Holter for Wolf Cousins (Tove Lo, Demi Lovato, Ellie Goulding) in Los Angeles and is available at all digital music outlets. The single surpassed 3 millions streams within the first few days of its release.

The Norwegian pop star also released the official video via her socials where the video sees Astrid as part of a vigilante couple who commit a heist in a Tarantino-esque, action-packed short film format directed by Cherry Cobra Films - a Swedish duo consisting of directors Johanna Nyberg and Nathalie Hallman.

Astrid S says: “This is the biggest music video I’ve done yet! There was a big crew, a lot of equipment and effects, not to mention all the costumes and clothes! I think the video manages to capture the edge and sassiness of the song, with a good mix of serious and funny. I'm so excited to share it!”



The 20-year-old, who is originally from Berkåk has seen unprecedented critical and commercial success in both her home country of Norway and across the globe. 

Media outlets across the globe praised the EP and single starting with Wonderland Magazine calling “Hurts So Good” “heartrending and euphoric” and Noisey dubbing the track “clearly excellent.” The Guardian described Astrid as “waiting in the wings of global stardom” and Nylon labelled her “Norway’s next great pop export”.
