After a massive success of their concert last year, Irish 90’s boyband Boyzone once again performed a one-night only show as part of their “Thank You and Goodnight Farewell” Tour at the Mall of Asia Arena last Sunday, June 23rd.
We’re halfway through the year and more concerts are yet to happen, but Boyzone’s farewell concert seemed to be one of the most memorable live shows that has happened so far…with Brian McFadden, a former Westlife member as front act. He performed Westlife hits such as “Mandy”, “World Of Our Own”, “Swear It Again”, “Flying Without Wings”, “My Love”, and “Uptown Girl.” Before ending his set, Brian shares, “Westlife became Westlife because of Boyzone. I respect you and I love you.”
There’s just something with 90’s heyday music that transports us back to that familiar feeling and comfort, and that’s what Boyzone made us felt during their 90 minute-concert last night. Their black suit and sequined suit made them even more sleek and dashing on this special evening.
“We’re gonna make you feel young again. We’re going back to 1995” Keith enthused.
A throng of delighted crowd gleefully sung every lyrics from the heart, deafening screams at Ronan’s solo, and even stirred everyone’s emotion when the lads paid a heartfelt tribute to their late brother, Stephen Gately.
Boyzone, composed of members Keith Duffy, Mikey Graham, Ronan Keating, and Shane Lynch crooned out all their chart-topping hits from the past and new ones with “Who We Are” “Love Is A Hurricane”, “Father and Son”, “You Needed Me” and more.
“We’ll sing songs that’ll remind you of your first kiss, first dance…” says Keating.
On the second half of the show, they went more mellow as they performed their all-time favorite hits, “Everyday I Love You”, “Words”, “No Matter What” and a unique twist in their 1995 version of “Love Me For A Reason.”
Mood went a bit of somber as the band spoke about their moments with their late brother, Stephen Gately, and then performed a very emotional tribute song titled “Dream.”
They ended their set with “Picture Of You” and Ronan’s “Life is a Rollercoaster.”
Without a doubt, BOYZONE still got it. They may not be young anymore, yes - but the way they pour their hearts out on every song, old and new - proves that they’re still the boys we’ve loved during our teenage years, and made us love them even more now. Compared to usual concert with technical and choreographed steps on a dance number, our boys literally just had fan on stage, grooved, and showed us what a real boyband concert experience is.
Thank You and Good Night is Boyband’s seventh and final studio album released in November 2018.
We’re going to miss you, guys! Please come back soon!
Kudos to All Access Productions for this memorable concert experience!
