Thirty-one years later, they are ready to rekindle the spirit of the 90s with their highly anticipated reunion dance concert, titled “SB90s,” at the New Frontier Theatre on November 8, 2024. This event serves as a grand celebration of the group’s remarkable success and the enduring camaraderie that has flourished among its members over the decades. It is also a heartfelt gesture of gratitude towards their devoted fans, who have steadfastly supported them throughout their career.
By performing their iconic dance moves and stunts to the vibrant hit songs of the 90s, the Streetboys aim to transport the audience back in time, allowing them to relive the exhilarating experiences and cherished memories that defined an era. They also want the audience to actively participate in the dance concert by joining in on some simple dance moves and following the choreography. This reunion concert not only highlights the group's lasting impact on the dance scene but also underscores their dedication to honoring the past while paving the way for future performances.
However, the big question on everyone's mind is, how are the Streetboys faring in present times? During a press conference on October 20, Direk Chito Roño expressed his pride in the group, noting that all members are doing well in life and none have strayed off course. Each member has their own thriving career, strong family ties, newly discovered hobbies, and are continuously fulfilling their dreams.
Besides, knowing that Vhong and Jhong are currently working in the showbiz industry, the media became curious if other members also had experiences in this field. Direk Chito shared that each of them had been given opportunities for a breakthrough in showbiz. They auditioned in different areas such as acting and comedy. However, some realized it wasn’t for them. Nonetheless, they are very proud of Vhong, a natural comedian, and Jhong, whom Direk has always seen great potential in, for their accomplishments.
Additionally, it is widely recognized that during their peak, Spencer was quite renowned. When asked whether they agreed with this perception, the group did not shy away from acknowledging it. They expressed gratitude and happiness for having Spencer as a part of Streetboys, stating that his prominence brought positive attention to the group. This allowed them to benefit from increased visibility and recognition, further cementing their name in the entertainment industry.
On top of that, with new genre styles now being incorporated into Filipino culture, it is indeed intriguing to hear how Streetboys view the emerging PPOP groups. They openly expressed their admiration for the new faces of this era. Understanding the immense effort it takes to rehearse dances for months and the courage required to perform in front of wide audiences and on national television, the Streetboys have nothing but the highest respect for these groups. They acknowledged the evolution in blockings, styles, and strategies and offered their warmest regards to the hard work and dedication of the PPOP groups.
Moving on, the members were also asked how Streetboys has changed their lives. For some, the group provided an entry into the showbiz industry as actors and hosts. For most, Streetboys was a foundation for learning and a source of financial stability. For others, it offered opportunities to travel both locally and internationally. For everyone, Streetboys gave them a home and a family that they will cherish for life. And above all, Streetboys provided an avenue to showcase their talents and passion for dancing.
Returning to the highly anticipated topic of their upcoming dance concert, another compelling question was who came up with the title “SB90s” and if they had considered inviting the PPOP sensation group, SB19, to perform at their concert. The group explained that their concert producer, Ogie Alcasid, came up with the idea. The title "SB90s" abbreviates Streetboys and references the 1990s, the era during which they emerged. They also shared that they did try to invite SB19 as well as the Sexbomb Girls. However, due to scheduling conflicts, it was not possible for them to join the concert.
To add to that, the members were asked about the struggles they faced during preparations. They shared that time differences posed the biggest challenge, as some of them reside abroad, making simultaneous practice sessions difficult. To overcome this, the group members practicing in the Philippines often record their sessions and send them to the members abroad, allowing everyone to stay synchronized and study the routines.
Furthermore, they were sought about what to expect at their big event. Firstly, they expressed their happiness and excitement as this will be the first time all eleven members will come together to break the dance floor. Secondly, they are eager to challenge themselves to see if they can still perform the impressive dance choreographies that left a mark on an entire era. Lastly, the audience can look forward to stunts being part of the show, although they noted that these stunts would not be as death-defying as those performed in their younger years.
It is surely thrilling to witness the Streetboys back on stage, reigniting the spark that made them legends in the first place. This grand reunion concert is not just an event; it's a celebration of their incredible journey over the years, filled with unforgettable moments and iconic performances. As they bring their timeless energy and passion to the stage once more, fans are invited to relive the magic and be part of a nostalgic experience that honors the group's legacy. This is more than a performance—it's a testament to their enduring spirit and the indelible mark they've left on the dance and entertainment world.
