Beyond the Binary: XLOV redefined the aesthetic in Manila

A year ago, rising K-Pop group XLOV electrified the atriums of malls in Las Pinas and Taguig. Last April 25, 2026, they dominated the main stage of UP Theater in Quezon City.

Fulfilling their promise last year of coming back, Wumuti, Rui, Hyun, and Haru reunited with their Filipino “EVOLs” for their "2026 XLOV Asia Tour" Manila stop. But XLOV isn’t just another K-pop act passing through Manila; they represent something different, and their concert made that clear.

A concept that actually translates live

XLOV entered the scene in 2025 with a concept that didn’t just stand out, it challenged the industry’s default settings.

The group’s “genderless” identity isn’t a gimmick or a marketing hook. It’s baked into everything: styling that resists categorization, choreography that blends softness with force, and performances that feel intentionally fluid rather than rigidly defined.

Instead of explaining their concept, XLOV let the Filipino audience experience it in real time.

A setlist built for momentum

If the concept drew people in, the performance kept them locked. The setlist leaned heavily on their fan-favorite tracks like “I’mma Be,” “Rizz,” “1&Only,” and “Bizness”, delivering powerful choreography and surprisingly stable live vocals for a rookie group.

Songs flowed into one another with minimal breaks, keeping the energy high as the divas also performed covers of “Gashina,” “Mamushi,” “Move,” and “Pink Venom.”

Setlists also featured their newly released songs such as “Scent,” “Kiss and say goodbye,” and “Biii:-P,” showing their different yet as-amazing-as-usual side.

What stood out wasn’t just technical execution, but confidence. XLOV didn’t perform like newcomers testing the waters; they moved like artists who already understood their space on stage.

More than a stop on a tour

Beyond the performances, it was the intimate segments and touching moments that lingered.

During the press conference with the media and luckily selected fans, XLOV touched the fans’ hearts through speaking their minds and souls. Wumuti shared that she wants the fans to feel more confident and powerful after that night’s concert. She also said, “Look at XLOV and have XLOV life, too.”

Of course, giggles filled the room too as the members expressed themselves freely in front of their EVOLs, especially when Rui said that she, Wumuti, and Hyun were so sexy that time– well, except for Haru, who will remain cute for at least three years, she also said.

The Manila audience stood out even further

Ladies and gentlemen, this is Manila. And Manila crowds don’t do the “basic” in concert events. Every beat was met with a response; chants landed perfectly, choruses echoed back louder than expected, and even quieter moments carried weight because the audience stayed fully present.

XLOV didn’t treat that energy as background noise. They responded to it.

The members also took time to talk between sets, mixing Korean and English with simple Filipino phrases, such as the undying “walang eme-eme” and “mahal kita.” Special fan perks, including soundcheck, hi-touch events, and exclusive photo opportunities, added a more intimate layer to the experience, something memorable for EVOLs.

More than music

What makes XLOV’s Manila concert notable isn’t just that it happened, it’s what it represents. K-pop has always evolved by pushing boundaries, but XLOV is doing so with a specific focus: identity, expression, and freedom.

This concert didn’t just showcase what they can do; it hinted at what they might become. And if that trajectory holds, this won’t be remembered as the night XLOV arrived; it’ll be remembered as the night it became obvious they were already on their way.
