What happened at GetMusic NURock YEARS concert?

To all music lovers specifically OPM lovers out there. This may be the most awaited local event you’ve all waited for before the year ends. Did you miss hearing Eraserheads again live on stage? Or even sing-along with Rivermaya, Barbie Almalbis, Sugarfree and Itchyworms? MCA music just held a concert together with NU107 the “Get Music NU107 NURock Years”. If you attended the concert just like us, you know the feeling!

ATTENTION to all the Tito’s and Tita’s of Manila! This concert was like a reunion where NU 107 was still streaming on our radio. It’s like teleporting ourselves from 2017 to the 90’s music in one night. The event has the most epic line-up you could imagine!

Opening the night with The Itchyworms.

Yes, we know Jugs Jugueta, the vocalist of The Itchyworms, if you are watching It’s Showtime. Some people shouted “showtime” while they’re performing but that’s from a millennial perspective.  The Itchyworms was already in the industry during 90’s up to the present. They performed some of their old hits like “Beer” and “Akin Ka Na Lang”.

Did you know that The Itchyworms won Best New Artist in 2001 at NU Rock Awards? Yes, they did!

The 2nd artist to performed was Barbie Almalbis.

I always say to myself everytime I saw Barbie was “Ang ganda niya”, “Di siya tumatanda”. I was really close to the edge on asking her what’s her secret. But I don’t have the courage on asking that question to her.

She serenades the audience with her angelic voice and amazing guitar riffs. Wow. If I were a guy, I’ll fall in love with this woman. She really knows how to play that’s why she’s still active on playing shows and gigs everywhere.

Some of the songs she performed were “Money for Food”, “Firewoman” and the soundtrack from Close-Up “Just a Smile”.

Barbie was also nominated in several category at NU Rock Awards like Artist of the year, Best Live Act, Vocalist of the Year, Song of the Year (Dahilan), and Album of the Year (Parade).

The 3rd artist to performed was Rivermaya

Honestly, this was one of the bands I’m looking forward to see. I really enjoyed every time I watched them in gigs and events.  You can really see how professional they are in their craft. Rivermaya defined the true alternative rock music. I’m a 90’s kid so I grew up listening to this band.

The last time I saw them was 2015 and I still clearly remember how nostalgic it was. And it happened again at Get Music NU Rock Years. So much feels when they performed “Kisapmata”.  One of my favorite songs of Rivermaya.

They also performed their latest single “Manila” from their latest album “Sa Kabila ng Lahat”.
Rivermaya won Album of the Year (Free) at NU Rock Awards in 2000.

The 4th artist to perform was Ebe Dancel

He really knows how to entertain people with his “hugot songs”. With a mix of mellow and rock, he definitely knows the right mix of music for people in all generation. He performed some of his old songs like “Tulog Na”, “Burnout” and “Huwag Ka nang Umiyak”. Ebe’s voice was like a lullaby to my ears. He can really sing you to sleep. He was very chill and relaxing to watch.

The last artist to performed was Ely Buendia

The first time I saw the poster of the event and I saw Ely’s name on the line-up, I said to myself that I want to go to this event! Plus, the fact that he will be performing some Eraserheads hits, I unquestionably shouldn’t miss this!

This was the closest encounter I’ve had with Ely. I never get to see E-heads in my whole life nor hear their music live. So, this was a first to me. I was really amazed with how Ely Buendia perform. I can see that he pauses a bit and let the crowd sings the lyrics and he was just strumming his guitar and look at the audience. I still can’t believe that the legend was really in front of me performing these iconic songs live. Everyone’s attention was on Ely Buendia. He was like storytelling and you must listen carefully and never bat an eye.

Ely Buendia’s performance was like a connecting bridge from the 90’s to the recent year era. Ely brought so much memories from the past and laid everything in front of you through his music and Eraserheads. The NU 107 FM days was also part of it. This station was also the reason why there’s still OPM in our generation nowadays despite of foreign acts and Kpop invading and adding to the music taste of the people.

Hope to have more of this kind of event in the future. This brought people back together.

Ang sarap sa pakiramdam na balikan yung mga musika na bumuo sa pagkatao natin. Nagbabalik ng mga ala-ala ng nakaraan at lahat ng mga ala-ala na ito ay puro magaganda lamang.

Thank You MCA Music and NU 107.

Sponge Cola unveiled their new song, Tempura

Sponge Cola is back with an interesting pair of songs to close out 2017. Fresh off their latest hit “Bahaghari," which just recently entered Magic899's Hall of Fame list, the band is set to release “Tempura" and “Kunwari."

According to frontman Yael Yuzon, “Tempura" is "Basically a compilation of text messages from a friend, who was going through some relationship problems at the time." When asked about the title, he says "It is so personal and almost biographical, that the title is almost begging the listener to detach from the song's specifics. But at the same time, invites anyone who could lend an ear." So is it a rant? "I guess it is," Yuzon adds.

Bassist Gosh Dilay penned the bittersweet “Kunwari," that despite being a lighthearted song, deals with something everyone is all too familiar with: unrequited love. Framed by Dilay's trademark Filipino, “Kunwari” emphasizes the push and pull between being eager risk takers, and safe calculated people when it comes to love.

Both “Tempura" and “Kunwari” are available on all digital platforms!

Sponge Cola's new single #Tempura AVAILABLE NOW on iTunes/Apple Music

Incubus set to return in Manila for post Valentines Manila concert on February 17, 2018

The much loved American rock band Incubus, whose return engagement to Manila has been eagerly awaited is performing February 17, 2018Saturday, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The band is known for its rock anthems Wish You Were Here, Megalomaniac, Anna Molly, Drive, Pardon Me, Are You In?, Nice To Know You, among others. The concert is produced by Ovation Productions, the group that also did Incubus’ previous concerts in Manila; the last was in 2015.

Since their formation in 1991, iconic multi-platinum Los Angeles rock band Incubus have consciously and continually shifted their perspective with each subsequent album, preserving the spirit that initially drove them and simultaneously challenging themselves as artists and human beings. Their eighth full-length, the aptly titled 8 [Island Records], proudly upholds that tradition for the quintet—Brandon Boyd [vocals], Mike Einziger [guitar, piano, backing vocals], José Pasillas II [drums], Chris Kilmore [turntables, keyboards], and Ben Kenney [bass].

“As a band, we’re collectively interested in challenging ourselves and hopefully finding new, innovative ways of writing music,” asserts Boyd. “That ethos has kept things interesting for us.”

In the fall of 2016, the five musicians regrouped to flesh out ideas, recording at Jim Henson Studios and at Einziger’s personal studio. As the vision came into focus during early 2017, Incubus added another level by enlisting the perspective of longtime friend Skrillex [Justin Bieber, A$AP Rocky, Lady Gaga] for co-production and mixing. Einziger had spent the past few years, exponentially expanding his personal musical palette. Not only did he oversee production for The Internet’s Feel Good and produce three songs for Tyler, The Creator’s chart-topping “Cherry Bomb,” but he also co-wrote Avicii’s six-times platinum smash “Wake Me Up” and served as musical director and performer for a much talked-about 2016GRAMMY® Awards performance of “Where Are Ü Now” by Skrillex, Diplo, and Justin Bieber. After lunch one day, Einziger played Skrillex some mixes, and “a whole new world opened up” as the producer added his magic to 8.

“It evolved organically out of my friendship with Skrillex,” Einziger elaborates. “Incubus is all about friendship. We transferred the synergy of working together into what the band was doing. As we put the final touches on everything, Skrillex brought another level to the album.”

As a result, the eleven tracks comprising 8 assemble a mosaic reflective of the band’s current mindset. Unease translates to unpredictable guitar riffs that blur the lines between time signatures as cosmic rhythmic transmissions orbit around an epicenter of combustible emotion. Each lyric encodes a parable or what might be a hidden message. The first single “Nimble Bastard” leapfrogs from a rattling guitar snap into an anthemic refrain. “Loneliest” echoes with an existential rumination on solitude over an airy beat and hypnotic guitars. “Undefeated” struts along via a bombastic stomp before culminating on an uplifting chant, while the spacey “Familiar Faces” instantly enchants.

The soothing instrumental soundscape of “Make No Sound In The Digital Forest” illuminates their cinematic side with delicate chimes, simmering drums, and warbling tones. A dial-up modem signals the explosion of “Love In A Time of Surveillance” as the one-two punch of “No Fun” and “Throw Out The Map” tap into a tsunami of distortion and punk-y freedom. “Glitterbomb” represents the glorious push-and-pull of 8, teetering between heavenly harmony and a dramatic twinge.

8 arrives at a significant milestone for Incubus—releasing exactly 20 years since their major label debut S.C.I.E.N.C.E. landed back in 1997. A little older, a lot wiser, quite tighter, but equally ready to challenge themselves and rock music at large, Incubus change their perspective once more in 2017.

“All the time, I hear from fans that our music was the backdrop of their first experience with love or important in getting them through a hard time,” says Einziger. “That’s the highest compliment.”

“When we finished 8, we were flooded with this wave of gratitude,” Boyd leaves off. “The fact that so many people are willing to come on this weird ride with us is really humbling. We’re filled with this sense of awe around it. We’re very happy to share this record with everyone, and we hope they like it.

(Tickets to Incubus’ February 17, 2018 concert will go on sale starting November 21, 2017 via and regular Ticketnet outlets or call 911-5555. Ticket prices are P6905, 5905, 3905, 1905, 1005 plus service charge. Media partners are FOXlife, Monster RX 93.1, Philippine Star, and Business Mirror. Produced by Ovation Productions )

Engelbert Humperdinck set to perform for his 50th anniversary concert on November 28

International music legend Engelbert Humperdinck will celebrate with Pinoy fans his 50th anniversary in the music industry with an array of classic love songs and romantic ballads when he returns for a live concert on November 28 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, Quezon City.

The pre-Christmas presentation from Ovation Productions is part of a three-city concert series that also includes shows on November 23 at the LausGroup Event Centre in San Fernando Pampanga and November 30 at the Alonte Sports Arena in Binan City, Laguna.

It is part of the Asian leg of “Engelbert Humperdinck 50th Anniversary Tour,” a global touring celebration of half-century of the successful musical career of a singer considered as one of the hottest male pop idols of the ‘60s.

The milestone pays tribute to the outstanding achievements of the crooner dubbed as “King of Romance” and who has charmed millions worldwide with his rich repertoire that encompasses a broad range of genres.

It will take the audience to a memorable time of love and romance as it showcases the musical brilliance of Humperdinck, an ultra-smooth balladeer whose beautiful interpretation of lyrics and excellent vocal technique have earned him an enduring place in pop music.

Among the hit songs he has popularized in his sweet, powerful voice are “Release Me,” “Quando, Quando, Quando,” “The Way It Used To Be,” “The Last Waltz,” “After The Loving,” “Man Without Love,” “Spanish Eyes,” “Love Me With All Your Heart,” “Am I That Easy To Forget,” and many more.

Engelbert Humperdinck’s passion for music drew inspiration from a life lived with a love for music that started at an early age when, as Arnold George Dorsey in Leicester, England, he began studying music and playing the saxophone at the age of 11 and discovered his vocal talent for impersonation at 17.

With the outrageously memorable name of Engelbert Humperdinck (after the Austrian composer of the 19th century opera, “Hansel and Gretel”), and with his deep voice and thick sideburns, he burst into the music scene in the ‘60s along with The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and Tom Jones, and was catapulted almost instantly to the status of world icon.

His debut single “Release Me,” became an instant hit when it went into the Guinness Book of Records for staying 56 weeks in the charts and became No. 1 in 11 countries.

Humperdinck was subsequently hailed by The London Times as “the premier voice of the 20th century” for his inimitable three-and-a-half octave range and ultra-smooth onstage charisma that captivated fans of every generation in many parts of the world.

During the next four decades, he has generated record sales in excess of 150 million records, including 64 gold albums and 24 platinum albums, and won four Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe award and a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Aside from touring the world before sold-out crowds in Great Britain, United States, Australia, Germany, Belgium, Canada and Southeast Asia, Humperdinck has performed for Queen Elizabeth II, several US presidents and many other heads of states.

In 2007, he marked four decades in the music industry with his critically-acclaimed 40th Anniversary Tour, a 100-city worldwide celebration that coincided with the release of “The Winding Road,” his album which featured “contemporary British classics” by such great musicians as John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Elton John, Sting, Eric Clapton, Christine McVie and James Blunt.

Five years later, he represented the United Kingdom in the finals of the Eurovision Song Contest in Baku, Azerbaijan, where he set a record by being the oldest singer to participate in the competition at the age of 76.

His double-CD of duets, “Engelbert Calling,” was released in the United Kingdom by Conehead Records last March 17, 2017 and charted in the UK Top 40.

The album features the singer in the studio with musicians like Charles Aznavour, Elton John, Il Divo, Johnny Mathis, Lulu, Willie Nelson, Olivia Newton-John, Cliff Richard, Smokey Robinson, Kenny Rogers, Neil Sedaka, Ron Sexmith, Gene Simmons and Dionne Warwick

Together with Humperdinck’s other hit, “I Followed My Heart,” the “Engelbert Calling” album is now available to stream in Spotify and other major streaming platforms.

“Engelbert Humperdinck 50th Anniversary Tour” will bring back the 81-year-old singer to the Philippines for the fifth time in the past 12 years after completing its swing across major US cities in September following shows in the United Kingdom, other parts of Europe and Asia over the past few months

As he embarks on his sixth decade in music and show business, Humperdinck remains a formidable figure in pop music, a true icon of entertainment who radiates excellence in his honeyed, mellow voice and inspires people of the present age who exalt him as an extraordinary performer and a quintessential romantic balladeer.

Engelbert Humperdinck 50th Anniversary Tour” is presented by Ovation Productions. Tickets for the Smart Araneta Coliseum concert available through or call 911-5555. Tickets for the Laus Group Event Centre in San Fernando Pampanga and Alonte Sports Arena in Binan Laguna tickets available through or at SM Customer Service.

Filipina J-Pop artist Beverly returns to Manila for ASEAN Summit 2017

Beverly, a Filipina J-Pop star and award-winning vocalist at various music festivals across America and Asia, will be the special guest for the ASEAN SUMMIT 2017.

Beverly, who belongs to AVEX, one of the biggest entertainment conglomerate in Japan, rose to fame after being invited to perform the theme song for the Kantere Fuji TV’s drama series “CRISIS Public Security Investigation Corps Special Investigation Group.”

Beverly’s famously high-pitched tone brings vocalism into a whole new level.

After rigorous training with famous Filipino composer, Vehnee Saturno, she was introduced to Japan in 2015. Now, she’s recognized not just in the Philippines, but has also been awarded several times in music festivals throughout America and Qatar.

At the A-Nation held in August, she was appointed as a starring act. She received huge applause from the audience, which is incredibly rare for newcomers. In addition, she’s also sung in 3 songs from the Disney Magical Pop Christmas Album.

After famous Japanese actor Shun Oguri attended one of Beverly’s live performances, he became transfixed by her talent, and introduced her to a well-known TV drama producer. This led to the release of “I Need Your Love” and “Empty,” recorded for her album “Awesome,” as the opening theme and featured song, respectively, for Kantere Fuji TV’s drama series ”CRISIS kouan-kidou-sousatai-tokusouhan.”

A finalist in the 29th Awit Awards for the Best Performance by a New Female Recording Artist category, Beverly was also the voice behind 'Maari Ba?' the theme song of Two Mothers, which aired in GMA Network in April 2015.

Here's 9 reasons why GetMusic NURock Years is go-to music event of the year

Now, we’re not ones to discriminate or second-guess, but sometimes, one does not need to look any further than our own shores to find the greatest, show-stopping and genre-defining acts who have done our musical heritage proud. Though the invention of the term “Pinoy Rock” was first coined decades ago in the 60s, it was the 90s and the early years of the millennium when we perfected it: groups like the Eraserheads reshaped the sound and the ethic in creating simple, pop-rock anthems and turning them into the soundtrack of our adolescent years, and groups like Rivermaya and Hungry Young Poets added a world-class sheen to their songwriting and studio work, while the strength of hit-making machines like Sugarfree and the Itchyworms continued that tradition well into the millennium.

Simply put, these were the years when local rock music reached the epoch of its creativity, and they all had one institution to rally behind: the iconic radio station NU107FM, simply known as “the home of nu rock.”

And local music fans and music enthusiasts, again, need not to look any further, as this November 25th at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, as GETMUSIC NURock Years, arguably the biggest assembly of local talent in the Pinoy rock music game. Indeed, audiences can be sure that no other show this year can deliver the magnitude – and the priceless memories – that the GETMUSIC NURock Years promises… but for safe measure, here are 9 reasons to consider why you SHOULD be there:

Though this event is without a doubt a celebration of the songs that were part of the soundtracks to our teenage years, the lineup: which consists of surefire crowd-drawers like ELY BUENDIA, BARBIE ALMALBIS, EBE DANCEL, ITCHYWORMS and RIVERMAYA, is one that does NOT feature nostalgia acts, but one that highlights the musical contributions of artists who are still at-it: changing the shape and sound of local rock music as we know it.

You can bet that we’ve got nothing BUT the hits lined-up for you and your friends… that’s right - no fillers, all winners! You know how you sometimes catch a concert and are just waiting for the artist to play that one single that you like most? Well this time, it’ll be ALL the hits you want to hear. Not to mention that a lot of the songs you will hear at this show aren’t always being played these days…

Don’t you sometimes hate it when you go to catch small gigs, you dress-up, buy a ticket and brave the rain and traffic for… five songs? Well that won’t be a problem, since the artists taking part of GETMUSIC NURock Years will be doing full sets of their greatest material, so you might want to go to the comfort room before each set starts, and strategically plan-ahead when it comes to buying your food and drinks so you don’t miss anything.

The holidays are just around the corner, and we Filipinos like to get-together and reconnect with old buddies and special people who have been an important part of our say, high school or college years… and who we might have lost-touch with due to our busy schedules, and general “adult-ing.” So call-up that long-lost buddy, or that ex-flame or that college crush or even that tough guy or gal you were afraid of back in the day and catch-up: if you purchase four (4) Patron Standing or Patron Seated section tickets from the TicketNet Office or any TicketNet participating outlet and/or through the online site, you will get one (1) free ticket for the same section. You’ve got to hurry though before the tickets fly-fast, because the promo period starts from October 16 to November 25, 2017.

We know a lot of music fans miss the seminal radio station known to aficionados as “the home of NU Rock,” and there are so many stories – from the larger-than-life personalities of the DJs, to numerous events like the NU107 Rock Awards that every serious Pinoy Rock fan – that are expected to be told among like-minded enthusiasts. This is the best opportunity to see not-so-old faces and characters who have been a part of the legacy that NU107 has characteristically left. There are current radio stations who are doing a great job in carrying-on with the tradition, but of course – there will only be one NU107.

Let’s not beat around the bush and acknowledge the obvious: the rabid clamor and persistent chatter in the grapevine of reuniting legendary acts like the Eraserheads, Rivermaya, Sugarfree and the like, have always been a hot topic in serious music fan circles locally. And we get it… we’d love for that to happen too! But until the stars align and the universe conspires and throws us a bone, this is just as great in the meantime: you’ll be hearing the same, great musical anthems NOT by a cover band, but from the songwriters and/or original, key-band-members themselves.

Work and traffic are two facts of like here in the Philippines. And depending on your situation, both can be main deciding factors on whether or not you decide to go to certain shows and events. Fortunately, GETMUSIC NURock Years is happening, first of all, on a Saturday – when traffic isn’t TOO bad, and second, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum located in the middle of the metro, at The Araneta Center. You can conveniently drive yourself there, train-it, cab-it, uber-it, UV Express-it or even trike-it! Definitely one of the main perks of having your event smack in the middle of the metropolis! Heck, you could be living in some far-away province, and you’d still get to the venue with one ride!

Did we mention that none other than Paolo Valenciano will be directing this spectacle? That’s right – this may attract loyal, longtime fans of local Pinoy rock, but you can also think of this as a NU Rock 101 of sorts: a fun, yet highly educational experience that can show the next generation of would-be music enthusiasts on how it was – and is – properly done! Plus, it’s exciting to see how Valenciano’s youthful vibe and spirit will translate into the show which features timeless, age-less music legends.

Let’s face it – when it comes to music, it is one of the greatest equalizers in the entire world. Young folks, teenagers, old folks, doctors, dentists, lawyers, industry pundits, record label executives, celebrities, mother, fathers, sisters, brothers, you name it – music makes the world go round, it brings people together and it makes for good memories. And there’s something uniquely special – and utterly emotional – when it comes to our local brand of music. So don’t be the guy or gal who’s staying home that night or somewhere else. Make sure you’re at GETMUSIC NURock Years to celebrate and party alongside all of us who love the music and the legacy of the NURock Years! We promise it’ll be epic!

Fifth Harmony set to return in Manila for PSA Tour on March 6

Global Pop and RnB girl group, Fifth Harmony are thrilled to announce that they are bringing their PSA Tour to Manila on March 6th, 2018 at the KIA Theatre. Manila will be one of the lucky stops in Asia before the girls go on tour in Australia.

After months of build-up and anticipation, multi-platinum selling group Fifth Harmony’s third album Fifth Harmony (via Syco/Epic Records) blasted to the top of the charts around the world upon its August 25 release. The group’s self-titled album was the #1 pop and second-best overall selling album in the U.S., debuted at #4 on the U.S. Billboard Top 200 chart and peaked at #1 on iTunes in more than 50 countries including Greece, Italy, Mexico, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Columbia. In addition to instant fan acclaim – and frenzy, as Fifth Harmony’s loyal Harmonizers immediately launched the album to the top spots on both Facebook and Twitter’s worldwide trending topics – critics have also praised the record, with USA Today hailing it as “the strongest work yet of the group’s career” and Rolling Stone calling it the group’s “most cohesive album yet.”

The album’s gold-certified lead single “Down” ft. Gucci Mane is the group’s fastest rising single ever on iTunes, hitting number two within moments of its June release. The track marked Fifth Harmony’s best sales debut and was the #1 most added song at both Top 40 and Rhythmic Radio. Fifth Harmony’s already successful 2017 kicked off with a performance at the People’s Choice Awards and has already brought the group wins across major award shows, including “Favorite Group” for the second year in a row at the People’s Choice Awards, three wins at the iHeartRadio Music Awards, two wins (Favorite Music Group & Fiercest Fans) at the Radio Disney Music Awards, the two top honors – “Favorite Music Group” and “Favorite Song” – at the Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, four wins at the Teen Choice Awards including Harmonizers for Choice Fandom, and, the cherry on top, a MTV Video Music Award Moon Person for Best Pop Video. This follows the record-breaking success of Fifth Harmony’s sophomore album 7/27.  “Work from Home,” the album’s 5x platinum certified first single, earned Fifth Harmony their first top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100, notching the top spot on both the Billboard Rhythmic and Pop Songs charts. In 2015, Fifth Harmony released their debut album, Reflection, which debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard 200 and has since been certified Gold. Reflection includes two platinum records, “BO$$” and “Sledgehammer” in addition to the quadruple-platinum success of the single, “Worth It.”
