A1's Here We Come Back Tour a Smashing Success in Manila

Ready or not, here they come. One of my favorite boy bands A1- are here in Manila and I was like an oogling high school fan girl again when I saw the stage at the Kia Theater this October 23 for their Here We Come - Back Tour. Their first show is held here in Manila and the next one is set at Cebu this October 25.

Before the show started, I had high hopes that they will perform their biggest hits from their albums. You see, since they were popular during the early 2000's, I had cassette tapes that you can't play anymore. Good thing everything's digital now and I can still hear their popular songs again. That is why I cannot wait to finally hear them live after XX years of being a fan.

When Ben Adams, Christian Ingrebrigsten and Mark Read took the stage, everyone was just howling like crazy. You see, I haven’t been able to see the “comeback” concerts of Backstreet Boys or Westlife and the other 90’s boybands, but A1’s fans really made sure to welcome the fabulous three.

They started the setlist with Same Old Brand New You, and we were just singing along with them. If there’s one thing I discovered about myself, it’s that I still remember the lyrics to their songs. The next tracks that they sang was Be The First To Believe, Forever In Love and Hey You.

It’s exceptionally very hot in Manila last Sunday and so they chose to sing Summertime as if the sun has not set yet. Then they made us all dance while singing Ready or Not. To be honest, it gave me all the feels because that was the song that made me like Ben so much. What touched me the most was when the three said that the fans know their songs better than them. And I think we did. I can even remember the dance steps of the song.

There is a story behind the “Everytime”, and they felt it was a very special song because it was written by three of them, at the same time. The next song was “In Love and I Hate It”, taken from their Waiting for Daylight album, their first album without Paul Marazzi, their fourth member.

We also sang along to their classic hits No More, One More Try and Walking in The Rain, Don’t Wanna Lose You Again, Heaven By Your Side, Take On Me and Make It Good. To the fans’ delight, they made a compilation of their memories of past visits to the Philippines while singing Living The Dream, because they couldn’t have lived their dream if not for their supporters.

They had a run down of the songs they haven’t performed yet and teased us with one of their most popular song but proceeded with Missing You, Grateful, If You Were My Girlfriend, One Last Song and Caught in The Middle- as supposed to be the finale. I kept on saying that A1 may look older now, but Adam’s (specifically) voice still sounds the same. I know because I used to replay the cassette tape to Ready or Not when I’m feeling down. It just sets my spirits up.

When they left the stage, almost everyone was shouting for them to come back and requesting for Like A Rose. After a few seconds, Ben’s voice blared with “And as I look into your eyes…” and everyone sang the stanzas with him until they went back on stage.

Here We Come - Back is definitely one of the best “throwback” concerts I’ve seen. This might be the only concert that I had the guts to go to on a Sunday and I have work the next day. I hope they would go back to the Philippines again and (maybe) to a bigger venue because I know of people telling me that they weren’t selling tickets anymore, few days before the concert.

And with this, I will forever cherish A1, even if I would be Caught In The Middle. :)

Elmo Magalona launched his debut pop album under Universal Records on September 30th titled "ELMO" and features 6 original songs plus 4 bonus tracks!

The actor/singer, after 5 years, decided that this is the right time to release music. Some of Elmo Magalona's favorite songs off the record are "Huwag Kang Matakot" which is a motivational song about taking risks, a line from the song goes "'di ka mananalo kung 'di ka susugal"; "Alam Mo Ba" with ElNella's other half Janella Salvador; and "Kay Dali", a groovy song that served as the album's lead single, the music video went straight to the top spot on the number one music channel in the Philippines MYX!

He spends time enjoying the music of Zayn, Drake, The Strokes, Passion Pit, The Beatles and of course, his legendary dad.
When asked about his father, the rising pop singer said his dad, Mr. Francis Magalona, would like what he's doing — which is not being enclosed in a box in terms of craft. He is taking the path he chose himself, just like what Francis M. did in his days. He would like to cover the songs "Cold Summer Nights", "Three Stars and A Sun" and "Mga Kababayan Ko" by his father. Elmo also revealed that his dad has unreleased materials he wants to cover and that Mr. Francis M. has recorded about 15 unreleased songs.

Solenn Heussaff bares her heart in her third album

Platinum recording artist Solenn Heussaff returns to the music scene this month with the release of her third album titled “Solenn” under Universal Records.

According to the sultry Filipino-French songstress, she chose “Solenn” as the title as she wanted it to be a reflection of her current life status.

“We have been working on this album since last year, but we decided to release it now, as I begin a new stage in my life, says the passionate Filipino-French songstress.

The multihyphenated artist got married to Argentine businessman Nico Bolzico last May in Combourg, France. Among other things, Solenn maintains a busy schedule as as she is currently part of the top rated shows of GMA 7; A1 Ko Sa’Yo,Encantad ia, Taste Buddies and Tripinas.

“All the songs are about “Love” in general. Different types, different stages. It’s my way of expressing how I felt when I was going through these stages. That for me makes this album quite unique.” “I have been through a few different types of relationships, and now that I am settled, I feel more comfortable in sharing what I have learned from them. Compared to her previous works “Solenn,” is just chill and easy going, mellow and with a more acoustic vibe. Solenn adds, “I wanted it to be easy listening. I want it to be relaxing for the listeners and I am hoping they could also
connect to the lyrics. I’m sure many of them have felt what some of the songs explain.”

The new album features seven original tracks, three of which are in Filipino, and one cover song “Never Be the Same” one of the first hits of the legendary Christopher Cross.“Universal Records gave me a list of songs that would suit me and we decided on a few pegs on how I wanted it to be and we worked from there.”

“Solenn” features “Always” by Elvin Reyes and Sheryl Ann Padre; the carrier “A Pocketful of Promises” written by Edmund Macam Perlas and Gabriella Wilson. Solenn recently shot a music video for A Pocketful of Promises with a sexy theme, expected to once again draw raves among her avid fans; “It’s Never Rained Here” by Jimmy Borja and Deanna Loveland, and “It’s Alright” by Jimmy Borja, Rae Hering, and Jonathan Morse. The tagalog songs in the album include Lalapit o Lalayo by Kulas Basilonia, Kilig from the soundtrack of Lakbay2Love and “Pangako” by Ito Rapadas and Jimmy Antiporda. Hitmakers Rapadas and Antiporda also helped with the arrangements for most of the songs in the album. “The first time I heard Pangako I was immediately drawn by the melody it made me what to sway. I also love Lalayo because, I think everyone has had a friend that they felt could be more but afraid they would destroy the friendship of a romantic relationship were to take place,” Solenn said describing two of her songs.

Solenn says it was her decision to include more Tagalog songs in the album. “I love that I have more Tagalog songs and that these are more suitable to my voice range. My voice isn’t one to belt, and these songs got that. I actually enjoy recording songs in Tagalog. It was not as challenging as before, but I still had focus on my accent and work on a few words to make it sound more natural. I’m excited for my fans to hear what is more me.” “I love singing because like painting, it is a way to express myself, but what makes singing different is that it gives the listener the freedom to interpret it their own way and have that inimitable feeling of connection with the song. This album just makes me feel complete.”

Solenn released her self-titled debut album on July 17, 2011 followed by a series of concert at Teatrino Promenade, Greenhills. Her second album entitled SOS was launched on August 23, 2013.

Solenn is released under Universal Records and will be available on CD in all record stores nationwide and on DIGITAL formats (iTunes, Spinnr, Deezer, Amazon) beginning September 2.

British-Norwegian band A1 set to perform in Manila and Cebu

Two weeks from now, A1 set to return in the country as they will perform in Manila and Cebu on October 23 and 25!

The band fell in love with the Philippines upon their very first visit, now four years since their last appearance, A1 are heading back for their “Here We Come-Back!” Tour, a two-night show scheduled for Manila and Cebu, dedicated for their loyal Pinoy fans, who always remained in close contact with the band via their social media accounts.

A1, the British-Norwegian band, consists of Ben Adams, Mark Read and Christian Ingebrigtsen and had their first breakthrough in the UK in 1999 with a collection of hit singles taken from their debut album.

They went on to have many international Top 10 and number 1 hits including Caught in The Middle, Same Old Brand New You, their cover of the A-Ha classic Take On MeEverytime, Like a Rose and Heaven by Your Side, to name only a few.

A1 also achieved massive success in the UK, Europe and across Asia, including a Brit Award for 'Best British Breakthrough Act' in 2001 and with 5 studio albums and a greatest hits, they have totted up over 10 million record sales worldwide.

Originally a quartet, A1 enjoyed considerable success from late 90’s to early 2000s that they decided to get together seven years after their split to compete in the competition to represent Norway for “2010 Eurovision Song Contest” with Don’t Wanna Lose You Again.

In February 2012, A1 performed with Blue and Jeff Timmons of 98 Degrees in “The Greatest Hits Tour,” which took them to Singapore, Philippines and Indonesia. They loved their two-week stay and charity work here that they held a benefit show in November for the underprivileged kids of Cebu.

The following year, A1 appeared in the TV documentary The Big Reunion along with Blue, Five, Damage, 3T, 911, Girl Thing and 5th Story and went on a UK tour. The boys also worked on their album and released “Waiting for Daylight” and “Rediscovered” in UK last June 2015. Their comeback concert this year will kick off on October 22 in Singapore.

Presented by Concert Republic, A1’s “Here We Come-Back!” Tour in Manila will be held at the Kia Theater in Araneta Center, Quezon City on October 23 and the IEC Pavilion in Cebu City on October 25, shows start 8 p.m.

Parokya ni Edgar release their new album, Pogi Years Old

Parokya ni Edgar, one of the country’s longest-standing outfits from the ‘90s band explosion, is back in the music scene this month with an album of all-original material, titled Pogi Years Old.

The new record, released under Universal Records, is their 9th studio album, and their first in six years.

The new album contains 21 tracks - fourteen in Filipino, two in English, and five short pieces that serve as a ‘break’ between tracks. Its carrier single is the ballad “Lagi Mong Tatandaan,” whose music video has just been premiered last October 4 via music channel MYX. The record also features collaborations with Rico Blanco, Gloc-9 and Frank Magalona.

All songs were written by the band themselves, except for “Ulan” by Coco Laurente, “Beautiful Girl” by Jose Mari Chan, and “Panahon Na Naman ng Harana,” a medley which comprises of “Panahon Na Naman” by Rico Blanco, and “Harana” by Eric Yaptangco, originally included in the band’s 2nd studio album, 1997’s Buruguduystunstugudunstuy.
