Unforgettable up close and personal with Chvrches in Manila

Last August, I had a conversation with co-founder Ian on the upcoming tour of Scottish synthpop band, Chvrches in the country. At that time, I started to get hooked over Lauren's beautiful voice on Spotify.(Thanks Ian for the recommendation! :D ).

We're supposed to watch the concert but I was ecstatic to learn that time that they will visit Manila for the first time a day after my birthday.

A week before the big day when my friend offered me her extra pass for the meet and greet which she won in an online contest conducted by Vybe Productions. Delighted to meet them up close and personal, and I can't even imagine myself on how to tell them that I really like all of their songs.

11.26.14, 4:30 pm, Samsung Hall, SM Aura

With a horrible traffic along Forbes on my way to the venue, I thought I'm late for the meet and greet sesh. Minutes after I arrived at Samsung Hall, we were told that to get ready to meet Lauren Mayberry, Martin Doherty, and Iain Cook.

At first, my hands are shaking while I dolled up wearing customized Chvrches shirt from Fandom Capital. When it's my turn to meet them, I was totally speechless when Martin had a lil chat with me while he signed my notebook and my friend's vinyl sleeve (I asked my friend to carry my tix and signed by them). I was overwhelmed when they noticed my shirt. So adorbs when they told me the shirt's awesome. (It's glow in the dark, FYI.)

Two hours of waiting and we're finally got in. When the door for the VIP section opened, me, Henri and my new found friends Janine, Jio, Peny hurried ourselves going towards the stage. DJ Joey Santos opened up the stage, along with Brisom (my new favorite band!) and Autotelic.

Brisom's in the house!

I was yelling so loud when Chvrches came up on stage and sang "We Sink". Luckily, I had a great spot near the stage and enjoyed every moment listening to their songs. The concergoers went wild as they performed Lies, Gun, Night Sky, The Mother We Share, Dead Air and By The Throat. The funniest thing that night when a guy besides me almost hug me when he saw Lauren on stage. :D

Amused over how Lauren played the microphone, Martin strut his stuff while belting out Under The Tide and Iain made the jampacked crowd in awe as we sang all the songs on the setlist.

Best night of my life! Met Chvrches and my first meet and greet. :)

A night to remember. Post birthday gift to myself...I can't stop staring all the photos that I took that night will always be one of the best concert I've been to this year. Thank you to my friend, Henri Villegas for giving me the spare pass for the Meet and Greet. Kudos to Vybe Production for bringing Chvrches in the country.

Above is my friends' post on IG. She got a copy of the setlist that night. So lucky!

Onto the next concert adventure soon!

Teeth frontman released his first single, Habang Buhay

Glenn Jacinto is commonly known as the lead singer of “Teeth”, a 90’s rock band in the Philippines. “Teeth” is popularly known for their hits “Laklak”, “Tampo”, “Shooting Star” and “Prinsesa”.
Glenn is now coming back with his first solo album and his latest single “Habang Buhay” just released last August 2014.

According to Glenn, recording the album went smoothly. The solo album he made was a collaboration with Tim De Ramos. The two met in Los Angeles and became friends. The song “Habang Buhay” was written by Tim and other tracks in the solo album as well. In making the solo album, Tim insisting on writing the songs and Glenn will sing, record and release it in Manila. The album is purely love songs.

“Habang Buhay” already released a music video directed by RA Rivera. The said song....It’s not just about love between man and woman but also love on its totality. The very catchy lyrics “Habang buhay kita mamahalin, habang buhay kita mamahalin” is very strong that will make you realize that love is everywhere and its forever – everlasting love. The melody of the song and Glenn’s voice really matched and connected.

The band “Teeth” is not yet disbanded according to Glenn himself on one of his interview by Francis Brew. They’re still open for bookings and invitation worldwide. Good news to all “Teeth” fans; the band is planning a new record! Glenn worked a lot of jobs already in United States before, but making music is still different, it’s like he is born to become a musician. He really miss the music scene and the Pinoy music, that’s why he is here again, giving us fresh music on his upcoming solo album. Watch out for that! Congratulations Sir Glenn Jacinto! This a good start for the new generation to listen to your music, it’s like bringing back the 90’s Filipino Rock Music again, and appreciate our own.

You can listen or download Habang Buhay:

Music review: The 1975's Medicine

The 1975 just unveiled their latest track “Medicine”. The said single was specially written for Zane Lowe rescoring the Ryan Gosling film “Drive” which was aired last October 30, 2014 on BBC.

According to Matt Healy, the lead singer of The 1975, “Having the opportunity to rescore a movie of which we were already so familiar with provided us with a sense of knowing and allowed us to be slightly more introspective than we maybe would have been approaching something unknown”.

I bet everyone here already heard “Medicine” and fans have absolutely loved it for sure. The music is just cool, very relaxing to listen. It has long instrumental which made the song chilled and soothing.  I really love the first line of the lyrics “I find it hard to say bye-bye” and at the chorus part “In case you’re my medicine, yeah, you’re my medicine”.

“The song is a testament to that same idea and has in turn become one of our most personal and best loved pieces of music to date”. – Matt Healy.

"I won't delve into what the song is about lyrically because frankly I want to put those ideas to bed; but being provided with the context in which Medicine came to be, it allowed the song to become a mausoleum for those ideas, captured, diverted and frozen forever. Which is pretty cool."

The “Medicine” was made and written by the band in the scenes they chose to score. Having their signature picky guitars, the sexiness of Matty’s voice, made the song sugary to our ears.

The rescore also include collection of exclusive new tracks by Banks, Baauer, Jon Hopkins, SBTRKT, Bastille, Bring Me The Horizon, CHVRCHES, Eric Prydz, Foals, Laura Mvula and The Neighbourhood.
