Perkins Twins released their new album, Can't Stop

Inspired by their diverse musical influences, from the Beach Boys to Justin Timberlake, Filipino-American pop twin brothers Jesse and Christian Perkins better known as the Perkins Twins release their new album under Universal Records. The album is titled "Can't Stop" and is now available in stores nationwide.

As to the album title, Jesse explains “We chose ‘Can't Stop’ because the term is a universal expression. ‘Can't Stop’ is a love story for our fans who we are forever grateful for and we can’t stop thanking them all. ‘Can't Stop’ also reflects the concept of never quitting and always putting your best forward through hard work in everything we do”.

The first single "Can't Stop" was one of the first songs the twins wrote on the record. When asked to describe the songwriting, Christian recalls, We wanted to write something that young people can really relate to. We tried to capture the feeling of how it feels to be in love and the joy that almost supernaturally comes along with it. When you're in love, you can't stop thinking about that special someone, and that's what the song is about. There is a subliminal message there for the love of Jesus as well.”

In the music video, Christian and Jesse was joined by the beautiful Claudia Baretto in a story of young adults discovering one’s true love. Making our first music video was an awesome experience. We were allowed to create the concept for the story line. We wanted a fresh looking female lead in the video and we were blessed to have Claudia Baretto join us. She was a pleasure to work with” Jesse said.

With sumptuous intertwining harmonies, the duo underscores five of their original compositions and one Tagalog song written by Kiko Salazar.  “Kung Aamin,” the only Tagalog song in the album was described by the twin pop act as ‘very emotional’ and ‘soulful.’ Jesse also adds, “We love singing Tagalog songs! What’s bizarre is that we sing Tagalog quite naturally; probably more naturally than when we actually speak Tagalog.”

Despite getting their start just over a year, their pop tunes are fresh and connected. The brothers first broke through into mainstream in 2015 when they released their debut album with original Tagalog songs by Vehnee Saturno. Soon after, they were signed with Universal Records and released the twin’s new album produced by Ito Rapadas.

We wanted to write songs that are positive and also songs that young people can relate to. They reflect experiences, either directly or those we have experienced vicariously through our friends and family,” Jesse further shared.

Born in the Philippines and raised in California, the 18-year old twins prove that there is no rule book that needs to be followed when it comes down to success. “We loved music growing up in California. Our family always sang in the house and in the car.  We sang in the church choir when we were younger.  But we never performed in public nor considered singing as a career and we were discovered as singers quite by accident,” Jesse recalled.

A Lifetime of Memories: Engelbert Humperdinck’s Reward to his Filipino Fans

Everyone in the crowd was lucky enough to be in the presence of greatness, the night when the international music legend Engelbert Humperdinck once again performed his timeless hits. It reminded me about the welfares of being in his presence at the press con the day before his concert. It was fun! More about Engelbert Humperdinck’s press con at Novotel HERE.

But whether it’s listening to his songs in the radio, records and streaming sites, I always felt greater. Going to his concert with my Father (who's a certified Engelbert Humperdinck fan) is extra special. There's no one else I can imagine to be with during these moments.

The Engelbert Humperdinck Magic Onstage

Engelbert Humperdinck's one and a half hour show at the Big Dome has given us all a lifetime of memories and we are thankful for the chance to watch such a wonderful talent live.  The icon delivers classic hits, old favorites and romantic ballads with his fabulous vocals.

"Good evening everybody, welcome to the show. Hello! Mabuhay! It's been a while since I'm here and I'm happy to be back and I just been celebrating a big birthday. But I'm happy to be here, I'm going to celebrate by going back in time and bringing back some songs, the nostalgia, the songs of the past is what I'm talking about," opens Engelbert Humperdinck’s one-night-only concert at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. "Every time I come over here is a pleasure because there's a lot of lovely talented people here in the Philippines who love singing my songs and I do appreciate that."

Things you should know about The Chainsmokers

Are you ready to see The Chainsmokers on August 19?

From ground-breaking performances to their wild acts, and now a world tour running, these two gents have been storming each country with their addicting productions. But before we see them perform, here are a few trivial facts about them:

1. The Chainsmokers pre-performance ritual
Before getting onto the stage, some artists have vocal warm ups and some sweat it out, but for this duo, it’s a different scenario. Imagine them having a few drinks (or a lot in a number of shows) before they turn the stage upside down, or punch each other in the face just to hype the party monsters in them. They also drown themselves with either steak or espressos to turn their bodies up for a massive and unforgettable moment upstage!

2. The name “Chainsmokers” seemed clever
Their name didn’t actually have any historical background or any sentimental meaning for them. Their name “Chainsmokers” was used just because it sounded clever for them and the domains were open. No one could’ve imagined that it would get this big and awesome for them, right? I mean, 443,792,938 views just for one track? How awesome could they get!

3. Soundcloud was the first home of The Chainsmokers
Before achieving the success they have now, The Chainsmokers used to upload their tracks in Soundcloud. It was a matter of expressing their musical passion and their intention to share it with the world.

They even collaborated with Priyanka Chopra back in 2012. In case you haven’t heard it yet, here you go!

4. You’ve been singing their track “Roses” wrong!
Their biggest track of 2015, “Roses,” was the anthem of every gathering you could think of! But do you honestly and wholeheartedly know the lyrics of that song? Well here are some lyrics you’ve been mistakenly hearing (or singing in the shower perhaps):

Misheard Lyrics:
Take it slow, but it's not typical
He already knows my love is fine
His heart's of stone, his hands roam
I told him to go, but he took it hard
Original Lyrics:
Taking it slow, but it's not typical
He already knows that my love is fire
His heart was a stone, but then his hands roamed
I turned him to gold and it took him higher

5. You would think this duo was in a long-term friendship… absolutely NOT.
Before all the music, the parties, and the mixing, they were total strangers to each other. According to a telephone interview they had with Up to the Sun, they were just introduced to each other by a friend of a friend. Whaaat?! Who would’ve thought that these two would be selling thousands of copies after just sharing the same passion for music! In the same interview, it was mentioned that Drew was mostly into pop tracks and Alex was the one DJing in New York but after two months of mashing mixes, they found themselves doing more legit tracks together!

6. A bookworm and a gameplayer come together!
When they’re not in the music scene, what do these two actually do with their lives? You would think they’d be out partying, living the night, or just doing random things with their friends but nope, not at all. These two have a different side that we don’t usually get to see! Alex is actually a bookworm who loves to read novels, while Drew on the other hand loves video games, well “Call of Duty” to be exact. Well isn’t that a surprise!

7. They take inspiration from anything and everything
These hitmakers do not pick and choose the kind of music they produce. As they say, a person born out of music produces the kind of music that inspires them. They have the passion for the art and this varies from different genres and music types. They wish to continue to evolve as performers and to be off inspiration as well to aspiring musicians. They continue with their mission which is to just mix what they think is fun!

June 24, 2016 – many have been waiting for this event and finally the biggest music festival had finally begun. From last year’s MTV Music Evolution – they focus more on hip-hop, but this year, it’s more on Pop. The good thing was, the event is FREE!
The line-up consists of – JaDine (James Reid and Nadine Lustre) who just started as “on-screen love team” and became official couple last February. #TeamReal the fans called to them. The father and son – The “Mr. Pure Energy” Gary Valenciano and the “Super Selfie King” Gab Valenciano. The K-Pop sensation Apink, who performed for the first time in Manila. The LA trio Far East Movement drops their rad dance music skills. The very talented singer/ performer Bebe Rexha who is also known for her good song writing skills and this year’s headliner OneRepublic showing off their passion in music to all Filipino fans.

We’re very lucky to witness this big event and very thankful to MTV for bringing these artists in one stage performing to us live.

The show started at 7pm. MTV VJ’s Alan Wong, Andre Parras, Hanli Hoefer and Yassi Pressman hosted the event. People at Mall of Asia concert grounds were all excited! Rain or shine, the show must go on!

Gary and Gab Valenciano

During the press con, Sir Gary said that the event is more on promoting the country. He’s very proud to be part of this event showing his talent, his passion in music and at the same time he is performing with his son Gab.

Gab Valenciano also shared his experience on making his videos and it just started out of boredom. You’ll never know when will you succeed, sometimes you get to your highest point in life during your lowest point in life. He made videos because he was depressed but he never expect that those videos he uploaded gone viral and made him through on where he is right now. He also said that you should stop comparing yourself to others because there is always a better one than you, just be yourself and don’t give up.

The performance they showed was beyond my expectation. Sir Gary is really a veteran when it comes to singing and dancing. Added by Gab that makes the performance more fun. They performed “Hataw Na” which is my favorite in their performance, “Babalik Ka Rin, “Di Bale Na Lang” and “Sayaweh”. The Valenciano’s were the perfect performer to open the show. People in all ages danced to their song even though it rains in the middle of their performance. Rain can't stop us!

James Reid and Nadine Lustre

The two were so excited for MTV Music Evolution and a lot of fans were all ecstatic to see them perform. No doubt this love team is so phenomenal. They are not just an actor/ actress that we see in telenovelas but they are also a great performer, a total package for a great artist.

They sang “Para-paraan”, James Reid’s “Randomantic” and for the first time Nadine performs her song “Me and You”. James Reid also sang a cover from Drake’s “One Dance” and ended their set with “Bahala Na”.  Upon watching the two, you can really see that they are very dedicated on what they’re doing. They all do this because they want to give back the love that their fans showing to them.

Bebe Rexha

Do you know the song “The Monster” by Eminem and Rihanna? Bebe Rexha wrote that song. The hit got quadruple platinum. From her $200 bank account, she had million dollars now because of that song. “The Monster” saved her life.

Bebe Rexha is not just a great performer but also a great song writer. She’s been a writer for almost 10 years now and she wasn’t expecting that because she just wants to perform.  She really knows how to handle a show. She actually had some mic failure during her performance but she just makes fun out of it.

It’s getting hotter and hotter in the pit while Bebe Rexha playing her famous hits like “Take Me Home”, “Me, Myself and I”, and some of the songs she wrote like “The Monster” and “Hey Mama”. She also performs my favorite “No Broken Hearts”. I can’t believe I’m watching one of the biggest stars right now and I like her outfit by the way, too much pink and she’s very pretty with all that sweat.

We can’t hide the fact that most of the concert goers at MTV Music Evolution are Pink Pandas (Apink fanatic). They’re very entertaining and so cute! The outfit, the choreography, the production were all great. No doubt they’re very famous here in our country. They put an amazing performance to everyone.

They gave color to the show and fans are all getting crazy in each song they perform. Apink performed “Remember”, “Mr. Chu”, “Attracted to You”, “No No No” and “Luv”. I know fans are expecting now for a solo concert soon but who knows? It’s not impossible.

Far East Movement

“Now I’m feeling so fly like a G6!” Can’t believe this song, Like a G6, was released 5 years ago today taking my memory back when I go to clubs way back in college. But my love for live music in concerts and music festival are still the best for me. No one can beat that kind of experience.

Good thing EDM is so mainstream and some music festival caters different kind of genres in one show. I got to ask Far East Movement during the press conference in what to expect from them during the performance and they said that they want to showcase more on their production, blending of sounds and beats out from their turntables and controllers and they assure the fans will have a great night. They performed “Like a G6”, “Rocketeer”, “Turn Up the Love” and “The Illest”. Kev Nish said that they’re going to have a new album, so watch out for it, definitely a great one.

Wow just WOW! Did I just say it twice? They’re really deserved to be the MTV Music Evolution 2016 headliner. Once I found out that One Republic is going to perform for MTV Music Evolution, I never had any second thoughts “I WILL GO AND WATCH MTV MUSIC EVO BECAUSE OF ONEREPUBLIC”.

Ryan Tedder shared his thoughts during the press conference and he compared music to food. You can’t eat the same food every day. If you want this certain kind of food you have to learn how to do it so you can eat different kind of food. Just like in music, you should adapt the change, so people will not get tired hearing the same music every day. That’s why OneRepublic is still a thing until now. I never get tired of their music.

The show is not yet started but the beat of the drums is already playing and I knew its “Love Runs Out”, that’s their first song they played.  Followed by “Secrets”, my all-time favorite “Stop and Stare”, and “Good Life”. *after encore* Ryan Tedder returned to the stage and play a solemn piano-solo and started singing “Apologize”. He also said that Filipinos are one of the genuine people he met. He still clearly remember the experience they had on their Araneta Coliseum concert in 2013. They also performed “Counting Stars”, their latest single “Wherever I Go”, “I Lived” and Ryan also sang “Burning Bridges” in acapella and wow “It’s higher than I thought?” he said after. Ryan is such a great singer. Although it’s live, and some artists find it hard to perform live music, but to Ryan it’s so easy peasy. They close the show with “If I Lose Myself”. Such a great production, a great way to end the night, mark our faces with a smile on our way home.

MTV is such a prestigious show! I love everything-  on how the staff accommodated us from press conference in Sofitel to the venue. MTV Music Evolution is getting better every year. Thank you so much MTV Asia, MTV Pinoy and VIMN Asia.
